My Lai: Exposed

My Lai: Exposed was a project that was produced from an interdisciplinary class in which historians, computer scientists, and designers collaborated to make an augmented reality or virtual reality project based around a historic event. My group; consisting of two historians, two computer scientists, and two designers; focuses on the events of the My Lai massacre, it’s subsequent government coverup, and designed an augmented reality experience meant to accompany a specialized museum exhibit focusing on the massacre and engaging with . The exhibit consists of five stations, each with its own mini-game focusing on a separate part of the massacre’s cover-up and public exposure. Some of the text and information will be in the exhibit, and the tablet will be used to interact with the physical portions, making progress on the digital portions and beginning the games. The games themselves are simple, but related to the feel of trying to unscramble a tangle of lies and cover up. The game we developed was a puzzle slider game, focused on photographs, where the player has to rearrange separated pieces of a photograph in the correct order to view the photo, similar to a jigsaw puzzle. I personally contributed to this project through the user interface design flow and visual design, SketchUp rendering of the My Lai Exposed exhibit space, printing of prototype materials and facilitating group management and leadership.
